Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that

We had just killed Gi'Astu for the quest and then he goes and does this. Don't fuck with a Keeper.

- 394hp 468m 334mv 3433tnl - no opponent no opponent - night active - Astronomically large, black feathered wings protrude from this young mans
back. His head is topped with the same incredibly dark black hair, and it
stands ruffled on his head, as if blown by wind. His eyes are an incredibly
bright green, in comparison to his hair. His body is rather small, standing
much shorter then most humans, when his feet are on the ground. His arms
are rather muscular, but not overly large. His legs dangle beneath him and
are too thin for the rest of his body. A grin is on his face and his teeth
are rather crooked and awkward in their placement, but they are not dirty.
The skin stretched over his being is of a strange hue, it is neither of a
darker color, nor of a brownish color, but it is far from white, it is
almost red. Not a single part of his body is still, mostly from the fact
that he bobs about almost childlike, but still his body moves in a peculiar
manor, as if a strong wind blows inside him.
He has unlocked many secrets of the world.
Korro has quite a few wounds.

  1. rebornshad Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
so you kill him because he gained an item from a monster yall killed for a quest was he even a danger to the keepers? cause if not thats kinda shitty.
  2. erlwith Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
    "Don't fuck with a Keeper."

I think you've got the idea behind keepers ass backwards.

and i see RP is thriving, between nobles hunting people across thera and keepers killing non-threats who help them on quests. looks like we're just accepting anybody these days.
  3. korro Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Actually, I think you have the "idea" behind keepers ass backwards.

First off, it was made clear that I wasn't going to stand for him taking that rare. That specific kill was for the quest, ONLY. I told him to drop it and informed him I was not kidding. (Read up if you need verification)

Second, keepers can turn on anyone at any time. You could be questing with me one minute, then be a Danger the next and refuse to get rid of your rares. Guess what Erlwith, each cabal has duties. Shocking, I know. Keepers do not hold grudges and will be kind, but we aren't your friends. Don't forget it.

Third, this is a log with a snippet of conversation between myself and Zarion. There is no room for dialogue RP in this. I RP'ed the role of a keeper pretty well I'd say by staying firm on my beliefs and then acting on them.

The "Don't fuck with a Keeper." at the top I put in there because I just thought it was amusing. Deal.
  4. slade Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Get your own prompt assclown. Variants don't count.
  5. erlwith Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
if you want to argue justification behind your kill that's fine Korro, but don't bring your cabal into it. If Zarion was not a threat you were not acting as a Keeper in killing him, because it does not fall under Keeper ethos to attack non-caballed non-threats. There's the threat flag for a reason. I can understand being annoyed at the situation, but killing someone for picking up a rare that did not make them a threat and that they did not steal doesn't strike me as superb Keeper RP.
  6. rekkakun Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
lol. I think in this situation, it's the same as asking the keeper to gain a rare equipment for you. Example asking a keeper "would you want to go winter? or would you assist me in killing the lich king for his items." The Keeper would definitely reject your request cos they dont believe in rares and they would not assist the others in gaining rares. So I think from his stand, he was right in taking out Zarion and sacrificing the rare because he made use of the keeper to gain a rare.
  7. pip Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
I think Zarion getting an item is a consequence from you wanting his help to do the quest. You know that Gi'astu obviously holds a rare, but just because you don't use rares doesn't mean other people can't. I understand your duty as a Keeper since I too had one, but the thing is, he wasn't danger, he was a good, and he had just helped you complete a quest that you can't do alone, so in turn you kill him for helping you, which is something a keeper shouldn't do. From what I recall, keepers have honor and don't hold grudges, but you shouldn't be taking it out on Zarion, you should be smacking your own face for not sacrifcing the armor fast enough.
  8. pip Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Honestly you were acting more as a bully Legion instead of a balance holding keeper.
  9. kessor Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
You killed him for trading one rare with another? Damn. Just damn.
  10. Hrimo Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Don't use Keepers to get rares. If you know what a Keeper is, don't expect him to reward you with a rare for helping him >regardless<. Korro could have did a better job of warning beforehand as that could have influenced whether or not they would help anyway, but this is just fine within the range of RP a Keeper can take. Hrimoyan (who's been around since Feb of 08) has never touched Winter for that reason alone.

There are many possibilities for RP with a Keeper, I simply chose one that I think reflect the current times/pbase best. But for example a Tethesis type with a few priorities rearranged could be a Keeper too.

You all have this idea that we're only to attack when one is marked danger. That's just when we have to, you all are simply used to what standard has been done so far. Keepers could go to war on rares all together (another RP point) but that is up to the leader at the time and it would take a good interpretation of the pbase (that kind of move would take a high pbase to do to make things interesting and for a lot of group warfare, but not in this kind of time)

Keepers are still an incomplete cabal (powers, motd, warcry) though it still manages to be competitive so its main appeal to me is the RP opportunities. I got to RP a character exactly the way I wanted to and be within Keeper bounds. Korro has done the same, and even then he cannot act out too far beyond the boundaries I set as leader. This situation is really not that bad. Don't use Keepers for rare gathering period. (The "Don't fuck wit a Keeper" was a bit much though Korro lol)
  11. Hrimo Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
By the way, at this point in time, Goodies (thus Knights) were/are considered strongest in motd, so another rare for them (even if replacing one) at the hands of a Keeper would have a less than content feeling.

Yes, you could have been faster on the draw of sacrificing the armor on the ground as pip pointed out, lol.

But just to reiterate, asking a Keeper to hunt rares with him is like spitting in his face. Keepers don't hold grudges so a Keeper will just decline. But after actively fighting alongside you (for a quest) though a rare was a reward and not sacrificing it, you're basically saying "look the other way against your principles while I take this armor", a Keeper's honor won't allow that either.
  12. erlwith Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Your mistake Hrimoyan, is that he "used" a Keeper to gain an item. As I gather, Korro asked for help. Therefore, if anything Korro was using Zarion and Zarion fairly assisted in the kill of an npc with rare items. Nothing Zarion and that group couldn\x92t have accomplished on their own. They all were helping Korro, not vice versa, as you see Zarion didn\x92t even have the quest at the time. All aspects of your character should be in play at all times, not just one aspect to facilitate your aggressive pk hunger, and a neutral attacking a lightwalker for picking up a rare item is not following your ethos and alignment imho. A Knight shouldn\x92t be attacking an oathed for killing a lightwalker (if that does not result in anathema) the same way neutral Keepers shouldn\x92t be attacking lightwalkers for picking up a rare item if they\x92re not a threat. Cabal flags are there for a reason, let\x92s not play naive.

And you can't have it both ways, either Korro is dumb as dirt and let someone who was wearing rares assist him in killing an npc with rares and \x93didn't know\x94(read didn\x92t care) that was going to happen, OR he didn't care enough to wait around for Keepers to assist him, who he would be certain wouldn\x92t loot the item or tell all that assisted him before the fight started that no one should take the rare. In either case it just makes the Keeper cabal look bad. Keepers (imo) are supposed to be the thinkers and diplomats of the cabal community not the blood thirsty legions or the duty blinded knights.

Just out of curiosity though, if Keepers can do whatever they want whenever they want why bother having the threat flag? What\x92s the point of it if the idea behind the Keepers is just to kill anyone with any rare and sacrifice it? Personally I thought the whole idea behind the Keepers was that if you are not a threat, and not caballed, and not hostile towards them, that cabal will not have an issue with you.

At the end of the day this isn\x92t my cabal so it\x92s obviously not my call, but to me this just looks like a slippery slope and an excuse for Keepers to do whatever it is they want without any RP or cabal flags behind it. What\x92s to stop a Keeper from killing someone with no rares because they thought they had one in their inventory? (The answer to that\x85 is the THREAT flag) Basically, without flags the Keepers are just rogue agents that do whatever they want to whomever they wish.
  13. erlwith Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Zarion is not a Knight by the way. He is a noble, the passive sect of Knights for all intensive purposes.

Picking up a rare infront of a Keeper is not asking them to look the other way nor is it going against their cabal edicts. Keepers themselves do not use rares, but I did not see it say anywhere that a Keepers duty is to kill anyone who even so much as touches a rare item, which is just what Korro did.

I'll reiterate that Korro made the choice to invite people who were wearing rares along to fight a monster that had a rare and set no standard before hand that they should not pick it up. There's no cabal justification here, unless you can specifically point out in your edicts where Korro was justified in doing what he did. I agree 100% with pip that this just looks like a legion kill to me.

  14. squeeeee Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
hey I have a great idea, move this entire discussion to the REAL forums, where it belongs, not only to get higher visibility for the imms, but also possibly to have the imms themselves weigh in on who here is actually being stupid and leave this place for logs only instead of log sized whines.
  15. Hrimo Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Erlwith you can't throw in such farfetched scenarios to prove a point (i.e. thinks he has a rare in inventory).

You're acting like he was actively trying to set up Zarion. Why doesn't it make sense that he could have not been thinking about the rare until it was killed and saw it looted. (it doesn't always have the armor, and you can't really check it out unless you're fighting it, in which case you could using attack skills instead) Yes Korro gained help (even rare users) for the quest, but let's not act like I pulled a Chalktala order and said "Group with no rare users" either. I told you, all that of what you think is simply opportunities for RP. The idea you have, and the one I play are similar, but I'm not going to act like it's the only way either.

This situation isn't one that would happen often and since it's happened direction can be given to address that scenario in the future. But as soon as an outlier situation happens you're ready to jump down his throat. What about all these chars using the loopholes to evade the danger flag? No one's mad at them. This is why a Keeper's actions cannot be limited to the danger flag (I simply keep us from getting involved with that until I can come up with a competent enough idea to be accepted by the Imms), and since you want to throw out scenarios, you're acting like a Knight won't attack an evil unless they are anathema. There's room for action outside of the flag as well. You all are just too used to what's been going on as if that's the only way, and find loopholes in that system and laugh while you think we "have" to sit on our hands.

This Cabal is still fleshing out and will likely gain a few more priorities within its edicts still. Speaking of "doing whatever they want", in the very beginning of Keeper, there were Keepers ranking with Danger flagged Therans. Keepers could decide whether or not to ever even pursue dangers without an Imm jumping down our throat, "uber" atonement (that skill now is almost sad in comparison), and the cabal was very open to interpretation then, and though I've assisted with enforcing the core of those edicts and some other things along with the Imms, it's still solidifying now.

This situation is an uncomfortable one, but not outside the limits of what "can be" with a Keeper (the reason behind the kill, not the setup of this situation). That's what rubs you guys the wrong way about this, but at the same time that means you all see a role for Keepers in AR which is a good thing too
  16. Hrimo Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
But for the record, it's more personal RP within the bounds of being a Keeper than Keeper RP.

Just wanted to clear that up.
  17. rekkakun Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Erlwith. From what I understand, you're saying that keepers cant attack and kill anyone unless they have a threat flag. I think it's the same as knights attacking evils without the anathema flag. With the flag, they MUST attack. Without it, then it depends on each individual.

In this case, since they are assisting Korro, I would say Korro had the final say in whether the armor should be given to Zarion or not, and I believe in his RP and Keepers not using rare, he wouldn't want anyone to obtain a rare from his assistance in any way. He specifically asked Zarion to drop the rare but he didn't, I see no reason why he shouldn't kill Zarion to get back the armor. But yes, as pip pointed out, he should have quickly sacrifice the armor instead to solve all problems.
  18. squeeeee Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
holy jesus, I didnt say copy and paste this entire thing to the forums, simply take up where it left off with a hyperlink to this relevant log and subsequent responses.
  19. Clifton Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Erlwith, I think you're flat out wrong. Firstly, if a person isn't marked a danger, keepers can go ahead and freely group with them. Secondly, keepers can kill at their own discredition. That's the beauty of being neutral. You shouldn't try to force all keepers to be rp'ed the way you do.

To a well rp'ed keeper, good and evil shouldn't exist, so to say that he shouldn't kill him because he was good is your own interpretation. The reason that good and evil shouldn't exist is because that requires passing judgement on the morals of others, which sort of promotes leanings of one tendency or another.

Finally, you don't just go ahead and loot looting a rare after he's asked you to drop it knowing full well that his ideals are against it. If you do, don't be surprised when you're gonna get attacked. If you are, what the hell is wrong with you?

That's the difference between this and a legion kill is that there was a request and a warning and that the kill was for the soul purpose of getting rid of the item, not of personal gain.
  20. Clifton Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Short summary, people are allowed to kill at their own discretion irregardless of cabal associations with the exception of good on good so long that it doesn't clash with the guidelines of race/ethos without consequence. It was well inside Korro's discretion to kill Zarion for having been seriously insulted.

Also, I'm pretty sure all immortals spend some time trolling these log boards.
  21. erlwith Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
    /longwinded

First, I just laugh at the irony behind a Keeper helping to kill a rare holding monster, with rare holding players, and then killing one of the players for picking up the rare that dropped.

Anyway, I\x92m not presuming every Keeper should act a certain way. However there are guidelines to roleplaying certain races/classes/ethos/alignments. I didn\x92t make the rules, or the help files. Neutrals can\x92t just go around killing anyone they want, or shouldn\x92t at least, this is not how the alignment should be played (made clear by HELP NEUTRAL). I will admit that neutral/neutral does have latitude with their kills and I never claimed Korro was outside of his PERSONAL RP to kill Zarion (if that RP is good or not is another discussion). However this is all before we take into account his cabal affiliation.

Hrim, you want to talk about far fetched scenarios. Lightwalkers naturally kill evils, this has nothing to do with cabal politics and as such the example of Knights killing evils without the anathema flag isn\x92t appropriate. Yes there are ways around being a danger, \x93loopholes\x94 if you will... but this is hardly the topic of discussion. The Imms need to fix it (if it wasn\x92t done purposely), but that holds no weight on if Korro should be attacking someone for picking up a rare.

I\x92m not saying Keeper\x92s can\x92t attack and kill anyone unless they have the threat flag. I\x92m saying, in my opinion, it is poor Keeper roleplay. I understand Korro didn\x92t wish his actions to result in a rare being obtained, however if Korro wanted to he could have easily prevented this (in the ways mentioned) or resolved it (by sacrificing any of the 2-3 times the item was on the ground). You can\x92t say you abhor all rares, and will kill anyone for actions such as these, yet travel and seek the assistance of people with rares. That\x92s called having your cake and eating it too. If you want to hate rares, fine, don\x92t travel and seek the assistance of people wearing them. If you are going to go so far as to aid and be aided by wielders of rare items your RP CLEARLY isn\x92t that of someone who despises all rares. This is not to say Keepers shouldn\x92t be allowed to travel with anyone wearing rares (though I think a similar no/limited-rare flag similar to the legion/protected dynamic could be in place). By the way, the three people in the group (all I believe a higher level than Korro) have a right to loot items from npcs they kill. So it isn\x92t like Korro killed the beast and Zarrion swooped in and stole the item. Zarrion, Verdell, Curisq and Korro all killed the thing, Korro aided and decided that he would determine if the rare dropped would be fair game or not. Did you ever think to take into consideration that if Korro had said from the beginning that the rare could not be picked up by anyone on pain of death that he wouldn\x92t have gotten any help at all? It just looks to me like selfish and self-serving RP to me, not something a Keeper should be associated with.

Clifton, I didn\x92t say Korro shouldn\x92t be attacking Zarion because he is a lightwalker. Just putting in perspective that it was not in his duties as a Keeper to kill him, and more or less against his neutral/neutral ethos to do so to someone who had just helped him. That is evil/chaotic. I never called for Korro to be removed from the cabal, or punished, just stating my opinion, so to say I\x92m jumping down his throat is a bit much.

And Squee, if there weren\x92t meant to be discussions on the logboard there wouldn\x92t be a reply button.

    /longwinded off
  22. squeeeee Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
discussion on the fight perhaps, not on roleplay, validity of game behavior, fatal whining, etc.
  23. Hrimo Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Who is suggesting his RP is that he's against all rares. Korro hasn't said this and I haven't suggested it, but I keep reading this in people's arguments.

    The point is this:
He would be working against his purpose if he allowed a rare to be attained from a mob by his hand. That's it. Why get so bent out of shape, this isn't something that would happen often.
  24. squeeeee Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Hrimo, then he should never have agreed to attack it in the first place.
  25. squeeeee Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
oh yeah, and hrimo, davairus just said its in his job description "anti-rare". posted on the forums, so take that particular point up with him.

    http://abandonedrealms.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=43958#43958

alignment and ethos give a general framework for behavior. cabals give guidelines for acting within that framework.
  26. Hrimo Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
I'm not contesting Keeper RP, I'm talking about Korro's. I'm defending Korro's action in this debate Dav simply agrees.

No reason to get into the degree of being anti-rare, it's already there.
  27. Clifton Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Also, Keepers are against the collection of rares in the hands of any individual, amassing of rares. They're not against rares explicitly, since trying to get rid of all rares is a futile battle, but trying to sacrifice as many rares as they can, and ultimately keeping any single person from having too many (hence, the danger flag).
  28. squeeeee Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
    I'll just add this.

    http://www.stumbleupon.com/toolbar/#topic=Roleplaying Games&url=http%3A%2F%2Feasydamus.com%2Falignmenttest.html

Its a great (though not the only place) to find philosophies behind alignments. it seems to me you have to know them all and understand how they all work to see the place of a particular alignment and how it would behave in a particular setting.
  29. Clifton Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
That assumes an agreed upon definition of good, neutral, and evil. It also assumes an agreed upon definition of lawful, neutral, evil. Also you can use 'help neutral' etc to find the AR standard.
  30. davor Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
I don't get it. Erlwith puts some concrete and eqloquet reasoning behind his case. And you guys reply with generic bullshit and making everything relative. It's not first, nor last dubious RP situation in AR, but you so zealously defending it doesn't really impress.
  31. Clifton Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
I don't get where you're coming from Davor. I like how you manage to throw two ad hominems and an appeal to authority into three sentences. It's like you're trying to add something.

Korro was perfectly justified in killing Zarion. He went from a crappy rare to a Unique. If you buy into 'help keeper' file, you'll see that Keepers are first diplomats (which was tried), and then fighters. Keepers aren't there to kill every single person with every single rare. In your opinion, what exactly did Korro do wrong?
  32. davor Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
    Excuse my ad hominems Cliffo.
    What was wrong?

    1. He sees Zarion trade one rare for another. => your reasoning is that he goes from crappy to unique. RP wise how does Korro know the difference? Did he ID the rare, did he meet it previously? Do keepers have a cabal power that lets them know unique from a common rare or the power of observed rare?

    2. diplomats first
"diplomat - a person who deals tactfully with others"
i would say this was short ultimatum followed by aggression. I would expect this from Legion.

Way to handle situation with someone who just assisted you. Also diplomacy is (apparently in theory) negotiation. And rare for rare sounds rather fair deal.
  33. Clifton Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that -
Character knowledge of rares/uniques is acceptable. That's why you see people going around finding white gold bracelets over enchanted leather bracers. So yes, it's acceptable that he knew monkey puzzle piece was a unique.

Sometimes diplomacy fails, and Keepers are forced to act when it fails. Happens with caballed people all the time. It's up to the character on how patient he or she wants to be.
