    by the looks of it quar's weapon ward fell and he didn't bother to recast it.

    Yup the weapon ward is purposefully provided so that casters don't need to worry about taking a disadvantaged sidestep in the pooper. But they do need to worry about keeping up weapon ward at all times.. the low duration of weapon wards of course gives them a bit more spell management , and a tad more difficult to maintain than the prot shield for 7 ticks nonsense..

    It used to be that it was the shamans method to just lean back on the ropes and wait for you to screw up, and warrior would try a bash once in a while and kill a newb one that way, but now you have the rogues actually doing that to shamans with totally devastating sidesteps/clobbers and what not. I remember taking out a pretty well geared 50 shaman with just chieftain sceptre clobbers with my last rogue. I dont think sidestep is nearly that lethal in terms of damage per second ,,, but when youre low hp when you take one, its possible you wont recover. Of course he had the chance to run and went for the harm, almost got it so I dont blame him.

    Not to hate on the log. It was definitely a good one. Two high ranked players going at it. Being the fact that I play a shaman myself... I don't understand why you wouldn't utilize healing during the fight. Throw a Faerie Fire in the fight and split. Do some Cure Criticals and come back ready to rock and roll. Obviously, the weapon ward dropping was devastating and failing a cause critical (or whatever it was) at the end hurt just as much. In the same sense, a shaman is as much of a healer as a mage. If he doesn't want to use his ability to heals, I would suggest using an Invoker, as they are strickly used for their ability to do afflictive damage. If I am off base here, please set me down. But I've been playing this now for six or seven years... and tons of changes have happened... but i still think a shaman is suppose to be used as a cleric. not strickly a mage with harm

    this is a very small piece of an extremely long fight. We had been fighting for at least an hour, and many times before this in which he nearly got me but missed. One time specifically comes to mind when I had only 10hp. Another when I was blind and at 100hp and just ran around seringale for 7 hours. I would say he was probably eager for the kill, which threw him off balance. I think he played it exactly as I would have. It was a gamble on both our parts to continue the fight, I just happened to roll the dice better.

    As far as invokers, they can get scrolls from the elemental canyon to supplement for their lack of healing.

    If he recast weapon ward I would not have stuck around. He thought harm would finish the job, and found that it didnt. Simple as that. If he would have taken awhile to chase, no way in fuck would I have stuck around because I knew my trump card was sidestep.

    Maybe it's just me, but I'd choose taking 1.5(or whatever) seconds to cast weapon ward while you reaura/run and chase you rather than get it in the butt from sidestep. I've learned that impatience is the easiest way to get killed.

    I think Dav said it best; that most fights are won because of a slight advantages on one side. That is, catching someone hunting or otherwise off guard, capitalizing on a mistake, or taking advantage of your opponents impatience.

    It could have gone either way and it was a brave risk, just not one I would have personally taken.

    Not too many rational people go for a sidestep at 120 hp, when they are lagged to where they won't even get it off until 40-90-who knows how many hp. Also, fire giant ward lasts like 3.2 seonds (which again is comedy since you need it or you can take that sidestep no matter which type you yourself are using). Probably expected after the harm that you'd flee to go into chase and finish mode.

    On the other hand halfling is harm resistant so that gives less incentive towards chancing it, especially if that last one was a cause critical attempt. Fires also have poor int so their cause line doesn't do as much damage compared to the others. Looks slightly greedy.

    By the way how long does pilfer lag you for? If its the standard 2 rounds then thats a pretty undervalued skill.

If you are facing an opponent who is a chickenshit (jeo comes to mind here) and it comes down to 100 hp both sides, its almost certainly the casehe will be trying to flee so you can input skill and hope for the best, and later he'll cry fireball was too strong, but he didnt try to bash or anything, yep.

If you take time to recast weapon ward, rogue will get a free round in on you at around 150-200 health. You'd be better re-engaging than eating a double round. By the way cause serious would have been mutilate/disembowel level more likely than not ~40 hp range or so.
